PearPC - Running OS X for the first time

Success!

Eventually, the install will finish and you can restart your Pear PC system again.

Select the hard disk as your boot device once more and watch OS X run on your computer in all its glory! As you might expect, the first boot-up might take a long time as the system needs to run various “first boot-up” routines.

Configuring your network adapter-

  • On the host computer, open the control panel, and go to the Network Connections dialogue.
  • Select the TAP-32 Virtual Adapter we installed earlier.
  • Edit its TCP/IP properties to give it an IP address that would work on your “real” network or Internet connection.
  • Finally select the TAP-32 adapter and your local LAN or Internet connection, right-click and choose “Bridge Connections”.
  • Voila - hopefully!
  • Sometimes the TAP-32 driver doesn't seem to work. This can be spotted if you can't connect to anything from the Mac and loads of errors appear in the PearPC console window complaining about TAP-32. If this happens, try disabling and then re-enabling the TAP-32 network adapter, or deleting and re-creating the Network Bridge.

You should now have a MAC OS X computer connected to the Internet. Some fiddling may be required with network settings but on the whole you should now be “there”.

In OS X, to fiddle with the network settings, click the Apple logo in the top corner of the screen and choose "System Preferences" from the menu that appears. In the System Preferences window, choose "Network". A list of installed network adapters together with a note on their status will appear. Choose the adapter you installed in the config file and configure it.

While the layout might be different to what you are used to, the Mac's TCP/IP networking is quite standard. Either tell it to use DHCP (recommended) or manually assign a network address in the range you use on your network.
